The third test match between New Zealand and visiting Bangladesh which was scheduled to begin on Saturday at Hagley Oval in Christchurch has been called off following attacks on two Christchurch mosques in which several people have been killed. The decision was made on the basis of the consent of the two countries.
New Zealand Cricket board confirmed the cancelation of the third test in an official tweeter update, "Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by the shocking situation in Christchurch. A joint decision between NZC and the @BCBtigers has been made to cancel the Hagley Oval Test. Again, both teams and support staff groups are safe."
Players of Bangladesh cricket team were very close to the mosque during the attack. They were heading towards the mosque and were about to go inside for Friday prayers when the incident occurred.
Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesman Jalal Yunus said, "They are safe. But they are mentally shocked. We have asked the team to stay in the hotel." BCB will decide soon when the Bangladesh team will return home.
