After weeks of rumors on Chelsea goalkeeper’s next destination, Chelsea have today (Thursday) confirmed the sale of Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid, with Mateo Kovacic coming to Stamford Bridge as part of the deal.
Through this deal, Courtois returns to the Spanish capital where he passed a stint of three seasons defending the goalpost for three seasons of Atletico de Madrid, the archrival of Real Madrid.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Real Madrid reported that the goalkeeper signed for the next six seasons.
Although the report did not give details of the economic figures of the transfer, several media suggest that it could be around 35 million euros.
After completing Thursday’s medical examination, the player will be presented at 1:00 p.m. at Santiago Bernabeu.
The 26-year Belgian goalkeeper comes at a time when he is in the peak of his career.
He won the Adidas Golden Glove as the FIFA World Cup`s best goalkeeper (2018), as decided by the FIFA Technical Study Group.
