Argentina has canceled the friendly match with Israel scheduled to be held on June 9. It has been known that because of the growing tension over this match in Palestine this Latin American football team has made this decision.
Argentinean sports website Minutouno reported on Tuesday that the scheduled match to be held in Jerusalem on Saturday has been canceled due to the escalation of violence, threats and criticism directed at captain `Leo` Messi.
Argentina was ready to face Israel in a pre-world cup warm-up match at Jerusalem`s Teddy Stadium on June 9 which was built in an occupied land of a Palestinian village. The Israeli army destroyed this village during the construction of the stadium in 1948.
Besides, many Palestinian supporters could not accept this friendly match of the Argentine football team after the brutal killing, suppression and destruction of Israel since March 30.
Earlier, president of the Palestinian Football Federation Jibril Rajoub urged the star player Lionel Messi not to travel and not to play the match. He stated, "Don`t come Messi, don`t be the mask for the face of racism," He accused that Israel is using the match as a political tool in conflicting Jerusalem. He also urged to the Arab and Muslim fans to burn shirts and images of Messi if he participates in this match.
In this situation, Argentina decided to cancel the match. However, after the decision, Israeli media sources said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will discuss Argentine President Mauricio Macri over this issue.
