Liverpool, who played the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Roma with a clear advantage (5-2 in the first leg), were not surprised, despite losing 4-2 in the Italian capital, confirming their ticket to the final. The final match will take place on May 26 at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The Los Blancos are looking for a third Champions League title in a row and a 13th overall while the English club seek to accumulate the sixth trophy in its showcase.
Liverpool have not played a final since the 2006-07 season when they lost by 2-1 against AC Milan. However, Liverpool won the previous 2004-2005 Champions League with a historic comeback after going down by 0-3 against the same Milan and then equalling the score by 3-3 to drive the match to the penalty shootout. They beat Milan on penalties by 3-2.
In the last meeting of these two, Liverpool came out to be the winners as they beat Madrid on May 27, 1981, at the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris by 1-0 and became the champions of Europe. That was indeed the last time when Madrid lost a final.
So, after 37 years of a long period of time, these two giants will face one another in Kiev in a decisive match. Statistics speak slightly in favor of the Reds as they have come out as the victorious in their previous meetings for three times when the Los Blancos won twice.
