Awami League president Sheikh Hasina had trusted many people in her long political life. Many were given responsibility of important positions based on that trust. But some of them failed to repay the AL president in return. As a result, they have lost the support and leniency the party president used to give them. They were proved to be unworthy of her trust. They are not close to the PM any longer, although once they used to be very powerful and influential under Sheikh Hasina’s favor. This report includes some of them:
Dr. S A Malek: After her comeback in 1981 Sheikh Hasina used to depend mostly on Dr. S A Malek along with some other leaders. Though he was not a great leader in the party, he used to be a prominent one. When AL came to power in 1996 after 21 years, he was appointed as the political advisor of the PM. He was very powerful at that time. However, after 2001, he had been losing Sheikh Hasina’s trust. His role during 1/11 is questionable. It is a mystery what he has done that made him abandon by the AL president.
Dr. Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir: It is true, nobody has ever been offered that much opportunity, Sheikh Hasina gave to Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir. He became the secretary of the Prime Minister`s Office, in 1996 in exchange of ‘Janatar Mancha’. Then Awami League president made him the state minister for planning. AL has been in power for 10 years since 2009. What did he not have in these years! Dr. Alamgir has become a minister, owned a bank and a university. But he could not show any success in these fields. Therefore, he has lost PM’s favor.
Abu Alam Shahid Khan: After becoming Prime Minister for the first time AL president Sheikh Hasina used to depend on some officials for most of her works. Abu Alam Shahid Khan was one of them. At first, he was the deputy press secretary at the PMO. Later he was suspended for a charge against corruption. Still he was trustworthy to Sheikh Hasina. He was given responsibility of Weekly Bichitra. From 2001 to 2006, he has worked for Awami League. When AL came to the power again, he joined government service as a deputy secretary. He became the secretary mysteriously. As a secretary he was an active, hard-working official. In 2013, a distance is created between AL president and him. Late Sayed Ashraful Islam proposed giving Abu Alam contractual appointment. Abu Alam has been an honest politician. However, PM declined Sayed Asraful’s proposal. Many believed that Abu Alam decided to compete in the city election in 2014. AL had faced failure in that election. BNP was very influential at that time. Maybe for that reason Abu Alam has lost his place in Awami League. However, there is no evidence regarding this.
There is also no evidence why Dr. S A Samad has lost his place in relation to the AL president. But in 1996-2001, Samad was prime minister`s most trusted bureaucrat. Many such stars have fallen which is a great unexplained mystery in the politics of the country.
