A strong reaction was elicited lately from various circles over the decision of increasing the gas price. Therefore, the possibility of a new polarization in politics has been created in the country. The left-leaning parties, BNP and Jatiya Oikya Front will call hartal if the gas price increases. The leaders of the Bam Ganatantrik Jote, a newly floated alliance of left-leaning political parties, warned to launch a strong movement if the hiked gas price is not scrapped.
Meanwhile, the senior BNP leaders held a meeting on Wednesday night and decided that if the gas price is increased, they will immediately announce movement programs. BNP grassroots activists are no longer interested in human chain or strike. They want to hold stringent programs such as hartal and blockade.
If the price of gas is increased, the current government will face a strike for the first time in this tenure. A consensus among the left-leaning parties, Jatiya OIkya Front and BNP is very plausible. They have already started contacting one another in this regard, sources confirmed.
