Riva’s first responsibility to bring BNP to parliament

India’s new high commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das began her formal activities in Bangladesh through meeting President Abdul Hamid on Thursday. Sources confirmed she contacted with Dr. Kamal Hossain following the meeting with the president. After taking the responsibility, her first meeting will probably be held with Dr. Kamal. Sources of Indian High Commission and Dr. Kamal confirmed the meeting might take place this week. If this happens, Dr. Kamal will be the first person with who Riva Ganguly will meet after taking her responsibility.

Sources said Harsh Vardhan Shringla also held talks on several occasions before the December 30 election. Many believe that Dr. Kamal is a very close person to India, and he played a big role to lure BNP and Jatiya Oikya Front into the election. India allegedly assisted him in this regard, said sources. The day Riva Ganguly began her diplomatic life in Bangladesh, Sultan Mohammad Mansur took oath as a parliamentarian.

Riva Ganguly’s first assignment will reportedly be bringing the elected BNP and Oikya Front leaders to the parliament. Sources said India wants to see a peaceful democratic situation in Bangladesh.

As the national election of India is scheduled to be held in April, India does not want to see political unrest, the rise of militant groups and the separatists using the lands of Bangladesh. It wants to practice parliament-centric politics in Bangladesh. And Riva Ganguly appears here. It has been reported that she would meet with BNP and other political forces.

An unreliable source said Riva held talks with Krishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddique before she arrived in Bangladesh. She took briefing of the overall politics of Bangladesh, including Jatiya Oikya Front and BNP. However, as per the Indian diplomatic source, Riva has three responsibilities.

Her first and foremost responsibility is to ensure that the practice of secular politics flourishes in Bangladesh. She will work to ensure that the ruling and opposition parties practice secular politics.

Secondly, she will work to ensure that the politics of violence does not happen in Bangladesh.

And thirdly, she will expect the parliament to be the center of politics.

Riva Ganguly is not wasting her time for performing her duties. Political and diplomatic circles believe her works will be visible within the next week.
