Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has instructed to remain alert so that no controversy is made over Dhaka University Central Student`s Union-DUCSU election. PM provided this instruction today while discussing with former and current BCL leaders. Chhatra League leaders met with the Prime Minister at Ganabhaban today (Friday) to update the latest information about the DUCSU election. At that time, former BCL leaders Abdur Rahman, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, AFM Bahauddin Nasim were present.
Chhatra League leaders informed the Prime Minister that ordinary students are on their side. They expressed hope that BCL will win with a huge margin in the polls. The Prime Minister said, "It is the biggest thing that DUCSU election is going to be held after 28 long years. Students should exercise their right to voting. They should vote for those they like and it is the practice of democracy. We fought to establish this right." PM said, "BNP-Jamaat would try to create new issue with this election. They would spread rumors to make this election questionable. Besides they also would spread false propaganda to mislead the general students." She instructed BCL leaders not to step into any incitement. The Prime Minister said "Different conspiracies are going on and we have to stay alert about it." Awami League President also said, "Instead of victory, ensuring a fair and peaceful election is the main responsibility of BCL."
In the discussion, former BCL leaders highlighted some of the examples of Chatra Dal and the quota reform movement panel`s falsehood. A former student leader also expressed agitation over the role of leftist students` organizations. The Prime Minister advised to be patient in this case. Later BCL leaders sought Prime Minister`s blessings. In response PM said, "My blessings are with you always." That time Prime Minister appreciated the way BCL has shown patience and tolerance. She said to retain this situation till the election day.
It is to be mentioned that after 28 years, DUCSU election is going to be held on 11th March. In this election, the main competition is expected to be held with three other panels in addition to BCL. Except BCL, the main three panels are quota reform movement students panel, Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal and leftist Students Organization Panel. Although Chatra Dal and other organizations objected about several things, but eventually they are taking part in the election. So far, the election environment is festive, calm and peaceful.
