Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered to utilize the influential celebrities of our entertainment industry who have participated in election campaign of the 11th national parliamentary election for Awami League. Many of them sought nomination in the reserved women seats but did not get the nomination. The PM has asked to take initiative to convince them so that they stand beside Awami League despite not getting the nomination and believe in the spirit of our Great Liberation War. After finalizing the second phase of upazila nominations, she gave the instruction to the party`s general secretary Obaidul Quader.
According to the sources, the Prime Minister thinks that not everyone from the entertainment industry has come with an expectation. They saw Awami League`s development, and were motivated by party`s good works. Therefore, it will not be right to refer everyone to be opportunist. These celebrities came after observing a healthy environment and they have to be utilized.
Multiple sources said that Awami League wants to utilize the influential and popular personalities of our entertainment industry like Trinamool Congress of West Bengal. PM Hasina directed party`s general-secretary to find ways on how these stars could be connected with several programs of party`s cultural sub-committees, Shilpakala Academy, Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Information. Several sources said that she also directed Obaidul Quader to continue communication with them.
Obaidul Quader said, “A large number of celebrities spontaneously participated in Awami League`s election campaign in the 11th parliamentary election. It is not like we called them, rather they were satisfied with Awami League`s activities. They thought that Bangladesh needs Awami League for continuous prosperity and development. I am particularly impressed with their feelings for the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”" He said that “Nomination is a political subject. Not everyone gets nomination. Many people do not get nominations despite being involved with the party. It is not necessary to be disappointed after not getting the nomination. Rather we will engage them in various activities."
A source from Awami League says that next year the year-long program will be organized on the occasion of 100 birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Awami League is adopting the plan how the celebrities can be mobilized in this program. Likewise, the same initiative is being taken to utilize them in the year-long events that would be carried out in 2021 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh.
At one point of time, people from the cultural arena stayed away from Awami League. They did not want their involvement in any political party. Now since they have showed their interest, it is necessary to utilize this enthusiasm and engage them in the activities of the party and the government. Because if they do not get involved, they will become frustrated. And that is why Awami League wants to retain the communication with them, sources said.
