Tarique Zia has intervened the ongoing brawl between BNP and Jatiya Oikya Front on the seat sharing issue. Today (Friday), Tarique has spoken to Dr Kamal and requested him not to create a distance between the two parties on the seat sharing issue.
Tarique told Dr Kamal their main objective should be winning the election, not who gets how many seats. According to the latest report, Dr Kamal’s Gano Forum has been offered 12 seats, Nagorik Oikya 9 and Abdur Rab 5. Moreover, Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed has been given ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol to contest in the polls, though he is not a member of Gano Forum.
Sources said Dr Kamal demanded 30 seats in the upcoming 11th parliamentary election. However, BNP agreed to give 10 seats to Gano Forum in the Thursday night meeting. It disappointed Gano Forum. To remove its disappointment, Tarique Zia intervened. He contacted Dr Kamal from London and offered him 5 more seats due to his contribution and for the greater interest of the coalition. BNP has not released its final nomination list as it could not reach the definitive stage.
Those who will contest with the sheaf of paddy symbol from Gano Forum, Prof Abu Sayeed is one of them. He will contest from the Pabna-1 constituency. Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Mostafa Mohsin Montu and Dr. Reza Kibria are among others who will contest with BNP’s party symbol. However, whether Reza Kibria will be able to participate in the election is yet to be confirmed.
