Rumour of probable change in Prothom Alo editor post

Chairman & CEO of Transcom Group Latifur Rahman has been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Latifur Rahman is one of owners of the Prothom Alo newspaper. Rumors are circulating in the media that Prothom Alo editor might be changed soon. Responsible sources said Prothom Alo is a part of Latifur Rahman’s family business. However, Matiur Rahman alone is the publisher and editor of the newspaper.

Mahfuzur Rahman is the Managing Director of Media Star Ltd. But the lion’s share of the company is owned by Latifur Rahman’s family. Latifur Rahman believes Matiur Rahman and his editorial policy deteriorated Transcom Group’s relation with the government. As per the governing policy, Transcom Group does not interfere with the editorial policy of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. However, Latifur Rahman believes these two newspapers are increasingly growing to be two anti-government forces.

Sources confirmed the Transcom group has already held talks about assigning a new editor. Anisul Hoque’s name has reportedly come up as the next editor of Prothom Alo. However, nobody could provide any specific information about this.
