Today they are silent

They protested after the August 21, 2004 grenade attack. One of them was in the Bangabandhu Avenue that day. Sprinter from bombs pierced into his body too. They all said, `It is a shocking incident. It requires a fair trial.` But they remain silent on the day of the verdict of the grenade attack case. They were waiting for the mercy of BNP that led this incident. They are eager to shake hands with BNP whose hands are stained with the blood of terrorism. They are Dr. Kamal Hossain, Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed.

On Wednesday, contacted Dr. Kamal said, ‘I cannot comment on this verdict now as I didn’t read the verdict.’ However, Dr. Kamal once demanded fair trail of the August 21 grenade attack in a statement on August 22. He said that the government cannot avoid responsibility of this incident, democracy would be endangered if there is no exemplary punishment for those involved with this incident.

Mahmudur Rahman Manna was Awami League’s organizational secretary in 2004. He gave mourning speech on August 27. He blamed Jamaat-BNP for this crime and demanded government’s resignation. However, when today the court has announced the verdict of this case, he is silent. He is forming alliance with those people whom he blamed for the attack in 2004.

Former VP of DUCSU (1989-90) Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed was there in Bangabandhu Avenue that day. Just like Manna, he was AL’s organizational secretary too. He called the attack a fascist move by the then government. In a protest meeting held on September 3, he said, ‘BNP has to pay the highest price for this crime. This incident could not have happened without government’s patronage.’ However, today he is silent too. He is busy organizing meeting with BNP tomorrow evening at Dr. Kamal Hossain’s residence.

The United Front and National Unity pledged to give people a new kind of politics. However, because of the desire for power, they have sacrificed their morals. Can’t anyone raise question about their ideals?
