Lok Sabha elections-2019: First phase of polls begins

First phase of polling of India`s 17th Lok Sabha elections 2019 has started in 91 seats of 18 states and two Union territories. Voting is also underway for the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha. Polling centers are open from 7 am to 6 pm.

Following the announcement of India`s Election Commission, the Lok Sabha elections will be conducted in seven phases this time. The first phase of polls will be held on April 11 and will go on till May 19.

Two thousand political parties and over 8 thousand candidates are competing this time. The Election Commission recently informed that the total number of voters registered is approximately 900 million, an increase of more than 84 million voters from the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. 13 crore new voters have been included in the electoral process. Two-thirds of the voters are 35 years of age or less. Digital media is playing very crucial role this time.

In this phase, elections are held in only Cooch Behar and Alipurduar in West Bengal. The voters of these two constituencies started coming to the polling booths since 6 am in the morning.

India`s Election Commission has said that they have taken all necessary measures to make the elections free and fair. In the meantime, the opinion polls showed that Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win a thin majority. According to the survey, the BJP`s seats would reduce compared to 2014 elections, however still they would get the majority.

But finally, the voters will decide who to conquer Delhi`s throne. And to know about this, we have to wait till May 23 since the results will be published on that day.
