Multiple people have been killed after a gunman opened fire on worshipers at two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch. Citing the witnesses, country`s authority said that a man dressed in a military-style and carrying an automatic rifle started firing during the Friday prayer at Al Noor mosque.
Police also confirmed a second shooting occurred at the Linwood mosque after Friday prayers.
Meanwhile, the touring Bangladesh cricket team was scheduled to offer their Friday prayer at the affected Al Noor mosque. However, they escaped the attack and safely returned to the hotel as the attack took place before their arrival, confirmed Bangladesh Cricket Board.
New Zealand police confirmed that they had one person in custody but still not sure if others were involved.
After the attack, the authorities advised the closure of all mosques of Christchurch until further notice. Even all schools in the area have been closed.
