State of emergency over polar bear invasion and other stories

Russian Arctic Archipelago Novaya Zemlya authorities have been forced to declare an emergency situation over a mass invasion of polar bears into inhabited areas. According to authorities, dozens of aggressive polar bears have entered homes and public buildings. Russian authority, however, refused to issue permission to shoot the bears.

Santa Teresa shootout leaves 13 suspected drug dealers dead

At least 13 suspected drug traffickers were shot dead on Friday during a shootout with police in a slum area of Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro.The confrontation erupted when officers were greeted by gunfire as they entered the suspects hideout, authority said. however, no police member was injured in the incident.

92 died in India after consuming toxic liquor

The death toll of toxic liquor consumption has increased to 92 in the last three days in India. The majority of the deaths were reported from the village of Balpur in Uttarakhand.

Thai princess`s candidacy blocked by her party

Thai Raksa Chart party has stalled the candidacy of princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi in opposition to the king of Thailand. In a statement on Saturday, the party has said it would comply with an order from the king and is ready to do its duty with respect to the tradition and royal customs under Thailand’s constitutional monarchy.

Canadian gets life sentence for killing six in Quebec mosque shooting

Alexandre Bissonnette, who gunned down six people indiscriminately in a mosque in Quebec in 2017, was sentenced to life in prison on Friday. The 29-year-old who was pleaded guilty last year to six counts of first-degree murder and six counts of attempted murder for the attack could be eligible for parole after serving at least 35 years.
