President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the United States intends to remain a "firm partner" of Saudi Arabia, despite Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman`s knowledge of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi that received international condemnation.
Trump, in a statement issued by the White House, said he had no intention of canceling military contracts with its “steadfast partner” Riyadh, and said that "if we foolishly cancel these contracts, Russia and China would be the big beneficiaries."
The president said that the intelligence agencies of the US are still studying the evidence of the murder of Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, and who planned it.
"Our intelligence agencies are still evaluating all the information, but it could happen that the crown prince had knowledge of this tragic event, perhaps if he had it, maybe not," said Trump.
Mr. Khashoggi was murdered on 2 October on a visit to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
According to US media, US intelligence CIA believes Saudi Crown Price MBS ordered the killing of the veteran Saudi journalist.
