Kabul suicide attack claims dozens of lives

More than 50 people have been killed in a suicide bomb attack in a gathering of religious scholars in Afghanistan`s capital Kabul, according to government officials. The Tuesday attack leaves 83 more severely injured.

Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish confirmed the news and said, the attacker targeted the Uranus wedding hall where clerics gathered to celebrate the Eid e-Milad-un Nabi. According to witnesses, some 1000 people were present at that time.

This is the deadliest attack in Kabul in recent times. No one claimed responsibility for the attack immediately. But the militant group Islamic States (IS) and Taliban carried out several such attacks. However, the Taliban have denied their involvement in the attack.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani condemned the terrorist attack and announced a national mourning day on Wednesday.

IS claimed responsibility for the two attacks carried out in Kabul in last August. A few dozen people were killed in those attacks. Moreover, during the parliamentary elections in Afghanistan, many people were killed in attacks across the country.
