A Lion Air Boeing 737 passenger plane with 189 people aboard crashed into the sea after taking off from Jakarta. The airliner was flying from the capital to the city of Pangkal Pinang but lost contact after few minutes of taking off.
Country`s rescue agency`s spokesman Yusuf Latif confirmed the news of the crash on Monday (29 October) morning.
Officials said flight JT-610 lost contact with the control tower just 13 minutes after flying from Jakarta at 6:30 in the morning. The plane was a Boeing 737 MAX 8, a brand-new type of aircraft.
The wreckage was found near where the aircraft lost contact but it is still unclear if there are any survivors. Country’s search-and-rescue agency head Muhmmad Syaugi said, "We don`t know yet whether there are any survivors. We hope, we pray, but we cannot confirm."
