US President Donald Trump admitted on Sunday that his son Donald Jr. met with a Russian lawyer in 2016 ‘for information on an opponent’. Trump was unyielding to call it an offence, rather he defended the move as ‘completely legal’.
It was the president`s most direct statement on the meeting of June 2016 at Trump Tower in New York which was to find compromising information about Hillary Clinton, his Democratic rival for the presidency.
However, Trump denied his knowledge of the meeting as he tweets, ‘Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower. This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere. I did not know about it!’
Then he claims, ‘It was a meeting to get information about an opponent, totally legal and that is done all the time in politics, and it did not work, I did not know about this!’
