A powerful earthquake hit popular tourist destination Lombok island of Indonesia, killing at least 10 people. More than 40 have been injured and still more people are missing.
The 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the central Indonesian island at 7 am local time, the country`s authorities said.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake epicenter was 50 km northeast of the city of Mataram, in northern Lombok. The Geological Survey also said, after the earthquake, a 5.4 magnitude aftershock was felt in the area.
Meanwhile, the country`s Disaster Agency spokesman said it is not possible to collect the complete information yet about the damage. So the number of casualties could increase further.
After the earthquake, the `yellow` alert has been issued by authorities, through which warnings of damage are reported. The authorities did not show any tsunami warning though.
