At least 19 people were killed in an explosion in an industrial park in Sichuan province of China. More than 12 people were injured in the incident. Jiang`an County said this explosion took place yesterday (Thursday) evening in a chemical plant operated by Yibin Hengda Technology.
The fire that broke out as a result of the explosion had been put out early Friday, said the country`s authority.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known. The government has said the investigation has begun to find out the reasons for the explosion. According to the authority, the injured are in a stable condition.
Yibin Hengda Technology, the chemical manufacturer of food and pharmaceutical industries, has refused to comment on this.
Earlier in 2015, 165 people were killed in a blast in northern China`s Tianjin. Last year, eight people were killed in an explosion in a petrochemical plant in Shandong province in the western part of the country.
Following these incidents, China has been working to increase safety in coal mine and chemical plants since last year.
