US President Donald Trump has been one of the most controversial world leaders the world has ever seen. He appears to be immune to criticism and nothing seems to touch his growing popularity. Throughout the last presidential campaign, he has been accused of sexual harassment, of xenophobia, of lying and what not. His aggressive speech against the Latino community or his proposal to build a wall on the Mexican border could not cause his popularity to drop. But where did this self-centered business tycoon come from and turned into a political leader?
The beginning story of the entrepreneur begins in Queens, New York where he was born on June 14, 1946. He studied at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor degree in Economics. His mother was a Scottish immigrant and his paternal grandparents were of German origin. Technically, Trump is a descendant of immigrants, like millions in the United States.
He did not start from poverty or from the middle class. His had received a fortune from his family’s real estate business that allowed him to earn a reputation as a real estate business magnate. After the retirement of his father from the business, he inherited the Trump Organization, but it was his daring decisions and strategies that made the company grow to the point that he appeared on the initial Forbes 400 list of richest Americans, with a fortune of 4 billion dollars.
In 1999, he sought the nomination of the Reform Party for the 2000 presidential election. But later he decided not to run. In 2004, he came the host of a reality show for entrepreneurs The Apprentice and became a global celebrity within a very short span of time.
Again in 2012, Trump wanted to run for the President against Barak Obama but ended up endorsing Mitt Romney, the former Governor of Massachusetts.
Trump became earned his political stature when he questioned the nationality of Barack Obama and urged that he shows his birth certificate. Later, Obama spoke it in during a ceremony and made fun of Trump’s remarks.
On June 16, 2015, after throwing harsh criticism against the US political elites he formally announced his candidacy with the slogan ‘Make America Great Again’. Since then, he had achieved two things. First, for his controversial remarks against the illegal immigrants, he created a huge enemy base. Second, more and more conservative votes went in favor of him for his nationalist and radical views.
Regardless of his controversial image, Bangla Insider wishes him a happy birthday.
