At least 48 migrants have died when a boat sank off on the southern coast of Tunisia. Coast Guard personnel rescued 67 people alive. The rescue operation was going on until today (Monday) morning. This information was published in a statement by Tunisia`s Ministry of Defense on Sunday.
Casualty migrants are citizens of Tunisia and other countries.
Security officials said there were at least 180 migrants on that capsized boat. 80 of them are citizens of African countries.
It is to be noted that recently the traffickers are using Tunisia to smuggle migrants as the Libyan coast guard strengthened the security in Libyan coast. Citizens of Tunisia and African countries, often try to enter Sicily by boat.
Earlier, nine people, including six children, died and one was missing after a speedboat drowned in the Mediterranean Sea in Turkey. The accident took place on Sunday in the southern province of Antalya.
The Turkish state news agency said the speedboat had 15 passengers onboard.
