Harvey Weinstein, one of the most influential producers and former media mogul of Hollywood, got bail in the case filed on charges of rape and sexual assault. A Manhattan court granted him bail on Friday for one million dollars. He also agreed to wear a GPS tracker and to surrender his passport after turning himself into police on Friday.
Earlier, the 66-year-old producer was shown arrested in the ongoing case when he surrendered to the New York police on the same day. After Mr. Weinstein`s arrest, one of the first women who came forward publicly about Mr. Weinstein’s history of sexual misconduct was actress Rose McGowan tweeted “We got you, Harvey Weinstein, we got you.”
In October last year, New York Times and New Yorker published two reports on sexual abuse against Harvey Weinstein. After this news got published, many celebrities in Hollywood came out and raised their voice for being the victim of Weinstein`s sexual abuse. The allegations against the disgraced film producer triggered the #MeToo movement, which means `I am also the victim of repression`. This hashtag campaign exceeds Hollywood and gave a wide response to women across the world, including Bollywood. After this campaign, there has been a change in many governments including the United Kingdom after allegations of sexual abuse.
For the charges against him, Harvey Weinstein was fired from his established company. He became busy with several cases as he was under investigation by the London, Los Angeles and New York Police.
Although he denied unusual sex in court and his lawyer said that his client was innocent and he would plead not guilty. Over 70 women accused Weinstein on the charge of sexual harassment.
