Attacks in churches leave nine dead in Indonesian

The suicide bomb attacks in three different churches killed at least nine people and injured dozens in Indonesia. Citing the country authorities the international media has informed that the attacks occurred in the port city of Surabaya today (Sunday) morning.

The spokesman of Java police Frans Barung Mangera has informed that the first attack was carried out at a Sunday Mass at the Santa Maria Roman Catholic Church and killed four people, including the suspected bomber. The second attack occurred minutes later at the Christian Church of Diponegoro where two people were killed. Two more persons died in the third attack at the city’s Pantekosta Church, according to Mangera.

The injured were taken to the neighboring Soetomo Hospital for treatment. The hospital authorities fear that casualties may increase.

Meanwhile, the police are not allowing the country`s media to enter the bomb attacked sites. Until the latest news, police and security forces surrounded the site of the bomb attack. Witnesses said that there was the gathering of Indonesian mobile brigade and bomb detention forces with police.

These grisly attacks came days after police ended a riot and hostage-taking at a detention center near Jakarta that left six officers and three inmates killed.
