16 Palestinians killed in Gaza in first day protest

At least 16 Palestinians have been killed and 1400 injured after the Israeli forces fired at Palestinian protesters in Gaza, according to Palestine`s Health Ministry statement. The statement said that nearly ten thousand Palestinian protesters joined the six-week long public demonstration in protest of the Israeli occupation on the "Land Day" on Friday (March 30th). In the meantime, there was a series of casualties when Israeli forces fired to disperse them.

It is said that one among the dead is a 16 years old teenager.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged the UN Security Council to help provide "protection for our Palestinian people". UN Security Council members’ meeting in New York has called for an investigation into the violence.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority has declared Saturday a day of national mourning.

The Palestinians have organized at least five tents on the border to continue the protest against the `Great March of Return`. It is said that this protest will continue until May 15. The protesters demanded the return of their territories occupied by Israel.
