The latest constitutional change of China would allow its President to remain in power for life as the country has removed term limits of the President.
On Sunday, during China`s annual sitting of the National People`s Congress, the constitutional change took place through a voting system. Only two of them voted against the change and three abstained from taking a side, whereas 2,959 votes went for the change. Therefore, political analysts prefer to call it a rubber-stamping exercise than calling it a vote.
It is to be noted that the two-term system for the President has been in China’s constitution since the 1990s.
