Taliban killed 11 Pakistani soldiers

At least 11 soldiers including a captain have been killed and 13 more injured in a suicide attack at a highly guarded military base in northern Pakistan on Saturday. The powerful explosion which rocked the surrounding area occurred in the Kabal region of Swat, officials said.

On condition of anonymity, an official said, "The soldiers were playing volleyball in the army camp in the evening when the suicide attack was carried out." Civilians were also present at that time. The officer said that the number of casualties may increase further.

Meanwhile, Tehrik-i-Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.  In a statement sent to the press, they say, “The Taliban started taking vengeance on the basis of God`s will. There will be further attacks ahead.” This attack is one of the deadliest against the military in recent years.

Pakistani Prime Minister KhaqanAbbasi said, "The fight against terrorism will not stop because of any cowardly attack. We will continue to fight.``

It is said that the area was earlier a stronghold of the Taliban. In 2007, Taliban took control of the Swat Valley for a while. In the past few years, the number of Taliban strikes hasdecreased.

This region is the largest province of ethnic groups on the Afghan frontier of Pakistan. Government officials say more than two thousand Taliban have been removed from there.
