Frida Kahlo, a wonder of creative world, was born on a rainy day of July 6, 1907. Her eventful colorful life and unexplainable artworks took her to another height. This woman, possessed with an outstanding talent, suffered throughout her life due to various physical obstructions. Frida`s inability to childbirth made her craving for motherhood. Each of her paintings is an epic of pain and inability.
But from the hostile surroundings, Frida has built the way of hope. She has created unique links in life and creativity. It can be said that she is an autobiographical artist. Her Childhood accident, discontent of not attaining motherhood, birth and death related thought, rugged relationship with husband Diego Rivera and communist ideology were all part of her canvas.
Frida`s portraits, self-portraits, and works are inspired by nature and artifacts of Mexico. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. She often said, “I paint myself because I am often alone and I am the subject I know best”.
In 1926, Frida made her first self-portrait named `Self-portrait in a Velvet Dress`. She adopted the style of Mexican portrait artists of the nineteenth century influenced by the European Renaissance Master`s work. Among her 143 paintings, 50 are self-portraits. Most of them present her physical and emotional wounds.
In her 47 years of lifetime she had to spend one third of her time in the hospital. In order to forget the immense pain, she used to comatose in Mexican vintage `Tequila`. In the spring of 1953, Frida`s only painting exhibition was held in Mexico. Frida`s right foot was cut from the bottom of the knee in that year due to gangrene infections. This incident crushed her and made her frustrate. At that time, the desire for suicide in her became stronger. On 13 July 1954, Frida died. Although there is no official examination or investigation, but rumors spread that Farida committed suicide. Her last writing in the diary was `I hope the living is joyful and I hope never return`.
The way the echo searches the sounds, the same way Frida searched for a perfect body. Every layer of her painting expressed her pain and endless agony. She may have found peace after her death, and maybe her search has ended.
