Ahead of the eleventh national elections, the national unity process seems very active among other anti-government political forces. However, there is still doubt and disbelief among a number of political leaders of different parties who are expected to join this force. First, it is an anti-government force. But some believe there are several agents of the government who will dismantle this unity process and drive it towards a direction which will benefit the government.
Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury’s son and Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Joint Secretary General Mahi B Chowdhury is one of them, who has been very vocal against the idea of forming an alliance with Jamaat since the beginning. If the United Front and the Bikalpa Dhara remain as a part of the unity process, Mahi B Chowdhury will top the list suspected people within the national unity.
President of Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) Bangabir Kader Siddiqui is yet to become a part of the unity process. He is also in the list due to his clear stance on the Founding Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He made it clear long before that those who do not accept Father of the Nation, he will not form an alliance with them. However, Kader Siddiqui has a good rapport with Gano Forum leader Dr. Kamal Hossain and. So, he may join the force at the end. But there is no confirmation that he will not change his mind later. Therefore, he is on the list of suspects.
President of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Col (retired) Oli Ahmed is also one of them who are in the list. Being a partner of the 20-partner, he is expected to join the national unity. However, because of his connection with the government in the past one and a half year, having an anti-Tarique mindset, and leaving BNP, there is a possibility that he may ditch BNP in the hour of need and support Awami League.
BJP Chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho is one of the most popular young politicians. Although the party does not have much popularity, because of being a registered political party, it has importance in the national unity. However, he is related to the prime minister. Besides being related, he has a good rapport with Awami League. His silence in the past few days proves this point. Therefore, the leaders of the national unity believe at the last moment, there might be a problem from Partho’s side.
Although the national unity process has progressed a long distance, these four politicians are not considered faithful for this process. BNP also suspects Awami League is unconcerned about this national unity. From Mahmudur Rahman Manna to ASM Abdur Rab, those who took initiative for this unity process, are seeing these leaders suspiciously.
