Are they above law?
It is said that `The law is equal to everyone.` But in reality it seems to be different. As soon as the arrest warrant was issued against an ordinary citizen, he/she gets arrested immediately. In many cases, the police conduct operation anytime, anywhere. And if someone commits any severe crime, there is no escape from punishment. But different things happened in the case of politicians. Many politicians are not getting arrested even after the arrest warrant issued against them. Rather they appear in the press conferences and criticize the government. There has been an arrest warrant issued against BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi for seven months. Even after this arrest warrant, Rizvi has regularly been conducting the press briefings. He is also conducting procession following the guerrilla style on a regular basis.

Recently police arrested 22 private university students for allegedly inciting the students` movement. Actress Naushaba has been arrested on charges of spreading rumors and stirring the public purposely. Then why is Rizvi different? Why has there been no proper application of law against him? Not only Rizvi, the arrest warrant has been issued against BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy as well. But he is roaming freely and also criticizing the government. It seems like he is invisible to the members of law enforcement agencies.

Another standing committee member of BNP is Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. Recently an audio of his conversation with the Chatra Dal leader has been leaked. After hearing that audio it is understood that Amir Khasru gave all the instructions. The boy named Naomi of Chatra Dal had only pledged to fulfill the order. But it was seen that police arrested the boy but did not touch Amir Khasru Mahmud. It is known that Khasru is in Dhaka. Khasrubordered the boy to come to Dhaka and take control over the streets with more friends. Many people think that, if Amir Khasru was arrested then the clear indicationsl of the conspiracy to flush the movement into another direction could be found. But Khasru is not being detained.

Recently, the people of law enforcement agencies arrested photographer Shahidul Alam. The chargesl against him is he delivered provocative message via an international media. He criticized the government in an interview with Aljazeera television. But at the same day when Shahidul Alam gave the interview,  Dr. Kamal Hossain said in a program that `hooliganism` is going on in the country. He spread the tension through provocative remarks. The general citizens think Dr. Kamal Hossain spoke against the government and the country more fiercely than Shahidul Alam. Shahidul Alam was charged but it seems Dr. Kamal is above everything. So here is a common question that is appearing on everyone`s mind, are politicians really above the law?
