Lord Carlile, the British lawyer of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has blamed Bangladesh for not being able to enter India due to the cancellation of visa. On Wednesday night, he went back to London and at a press conference, he complained this.
Lord Carlile said, "I went to Delhi with a valid business e-visa, but I was told that the visa has been canceled. It seems that the government of Bangladesh has pressurized the Indian government to cancel my visa and India has acted accordingly.
"It is a matter of great concern that India is called the largest democratic state in the world," Carlile added.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the British lawyer was sent back to London from Delhi airport. When he arrived at Delhi`s Indira Gandhi International Airport, immigration officials told him that he did not have permission to enter India because of the cancelation of his visa. He was then handed over to London`s return ticket.
Carlile, who is a Crossbench member of the House of Lord, wanted to come to Bangladesh at first and hold a press conference. But the government of Bangladesh did not give him a visa. Then he told that he would hold a press conference on July 12 at Le Meridien Hotel in Delhi. A number of senior BNP leaders and Khaleda`s lawyers from Dhaka were also expected to attend the conference. But the press conference was canceled as the government of India canceled his visa.
The British lawyer believes that the case against Khaleda Zia is `politically motivated` and the evidence presented against her in the court is `baseless`. He also said that Khaleda Zia was imprisoned to keep her away from the upcoming parliamentary election. Carlile wanted to talk about these issues at a press conference.
BNP activists are complaining that the government of India did not allow Carlile to enter India due to the objection of the Bangladeshi government.
However, the truth is nothing like this. The reason behind India`s refusal to give visa to Carlile is his connection with militancy. Carlile once helped Indian Don Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel to enter and stay in London. India`s stance on the mafias like Dawood Ibrahim and their collaborators has always been unyielding. And that is why Lord Carlile was not allowed to enter India. For the same reason, eight or ten lawyers of Dubai were never given visa to India.
