Fakhrul: Self-imposed exile or compulsory retirement?

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul was suddenly admitted to hospital. But he could not stay for much time at the United Hospital. The doctors released him saying he had no illness. He was released from the hospital on Friday. But since then he has been in self-imposed exile. He withdrew himself from everything. He is absent from the party`s activities. He does not meet with the party leaders. Suddenly, there is a lot of questions in BNP about Fakhrul. Has he hidden himself because of the huff? However, close people of the BNP secretary general are saying otherwise. According to them, even after leaving the hospital, the doctor asked him to take rest for a few days in the house. That is why he is in rest.

On July 5, BNP wanted to rally in front of the party office in Paltan demanding the release of Begum Zia. But the rally was canceled because police did not give the permission. BNP protested against the cancelation of the rally. Tomorrow BNP will observe `symbolic hunger strike` demanding the release of Begum Zia. But whether the program will be held peacefully is a question raised by the opposition skeptical leaders. BNP has now become Rizvi`s own property. The senior joint secretary general seats in the party office every day and briefs the press. BNP`s existence has narrowed down to this now. However, the BNP secretary general kept quiet for some unknown reasons.

Many in BNP believe that the government has come to a secret compromise with Mirza Fakhrul for taking part in the upcoming parliamentary election. That is why he is no longer favoring the movement. But BNP is under pressure to carry out the movement against the government. Has the secretary general hidden himself to avoid the pressure?

Many leaders in BNP believe that after Begum Zia got imprisoned, BNP could not do anything mainly for the failure of the leadership. The general secretary of the party has been criticized the most. Because of the absence of Begum Zia and Tarique Zia, he is the main leader of BNP now. Because of this, all the failures of party are falling on him. Did Mirza Fakhrul hide himself due to this criticism?

In recent times, the BNP-Jamaat relation is on the decline. BNP leader said the 19-year long relationship is now in the face of breakdown. Not just on Sylhet City corporation election, on the recent political issues BNP-Jamaat`s relationship has created mistrust between them. That is why both BNP and Jamaat are blaming the BNP secretary general. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came to BNP from left-wing politics. He is well-known for his anti-Jamaat mentality. Many people believe that after taking the responsibility of the party, he adopted the policy to avoid the Jamaat.
