‘Few MPs` activities cost AL its reputation’

An extended meeting of Awami League Executive Committee was held on Friday at Bangabandhu Avenue. The meeting discussed the nomination for the three city corporation elections and upcoming national election. Prime Minister and the AL President Sheikh Hasina strictly directed the party to maintain order and resolve the internal conflict of the party. She said, `In any circumstance, the party will not allow division. Due to the mischiefs of some MPs, the reputation of the party is getting harmed. The popularity of AL is being lost. AL did huge development works in the last ten years, so why would people not vote for AL? AL`s reputation is being lost due to a few people. We will not tolerate this.`

The prime minister points out that the MPs who are accused of corruption like illegal recruitment business, tendering or extortion will not be nominated in the next election.`

She said, `In many places, the grassroots of AL have been neutralized by the neo-Awami League leaders. These happened under the nose of our MPs.`

She ordered party’s hig-ups to form a committee to probe into the matter. They will review the party, different groups, especially those who came from BNP-Jamaat and have become the influential body. They are cornering the true AL leaders. Those who are trying to ruin the reputation of the party, we will make a list of them and expel them from the party.`

The prime minister will hold a meeting with the grassroots leaders on July 7 in the second phase. After this meeting, those who have allegations of losing reputation due to corruption will not be given nomination in the next election.
