Marlon Brando: Godfather of actors

Influential American actor and film director Marlon Brando prepared a speech for Academy Awards over why he rejects the award. Protesting government oppression over Native Americans, Brando rejected his Oscar award in `best actor` category for his ageless `The Godfather` film. However, he was not present at the stage to declaim his statement. Apache-American actress and activist for Native American rights Sacheen Littlefeather narrated the speech on behalf of Brando. From this, it is understood that Brando was a strong personality with empathy in real life also.

Marlon Brando Jr. born on April 3, 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska, to pesticide and chemical feed manufacturer Marlon Brando, Sr. and Dorothy Julia has his 95th birth anniversary today.

Brando stepped into the stage through Broadway theater in 1944. In his 80-year life, Brando has played in 38 full-length films and many documentaries. Brando marked her debut in silver screen in 1950 through `The Man`. His biggest contribution to the film is the embodiment of the character.

Brando did not compromise with his artistic essence while making commercially blockbuster films. And for this reason, he got Academy Award nomination as the best actor eight times and got the Oscar for `On the Waterfront (1954)` and `The Godfather (1972)`. He played an important role in popularizing the Stanislavski system of acting and has been credited as one of the first actors to bring Method Acting in Hollywood.

His famous films included The Godfather, A Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront, Mutiny on the Bounty, and Apocalypse Now. Brando was an exemplary model of his contemporary actors. He had a huge influence on the young actors of his generation. He was considered as a `living legend` in his lifetime. He was an activist for many causes, notably the civil rights movement and various Native American movements. This superstar left his last breath in California on July 1, 2004, at the age of 80.
