Director Tauquir Ahmed`s `Halda` received the Best Feature Film Award in the eighth SAARC Film Festival. The award was announced on the last day of the festival in Sri Lanka’s Colombo on Sunday.
This film bagged the Best Original Score, Best Editor and Best Cinematographer award. The other award winners from the film `Halda` are cinematographer EnamulSohel, editor Amit Debnath, and music composers Tauquir Ahmed, Pinto Ghosh, and Sanzida Mahmood Nandita. Tauquir Ahmed received the awards on behalf of his colleagues.
The movie is named after the Halda River, a natural fish breeding center of Bangladesh. Halda, which was released in December last year, is the story of fishermen whose livelihoods dwindle as the river gets polluted by factories and other wastes.
Tauquir Ahmed`s film ‘Oggattonama’ had won the Best Screenplay award at the festival last year.
A total of 26 films have been screened at the SAARC Film Festival from May 22 to 26. An official from the SAARC Cultural Center said that because there were no English subtitles, no film from Afghanistan and Nepal has been featured in this year`s edition.
