Today marks Mark Twain’s 108th death anniversary

Today is the 108th death anniversary of American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer Mark Twain. On this day of 1910, at the age of 74, he died in Ridding, Connecticut, USA. Samuel Langhorne Clemens, who was known worldwide by his pen name Mark Twain, was born on 30 November, 1835 in Florida, Missouri.

Twain passed his childhood in fighting poverty. After losing his father at only 11 Twain`s family came to the street. To earn money, he had to leave his studies. He visited across the country. He worked as delivery boy, bargeman, miner, and store clerk. Together with his younger brother, they have benefited from their ship`s work. But his fortune did not last long. The Boiler blast caused the death of her younger brother Henry. Twain was broken at his brother`s death.

From his early age, he had a strange attraction of writing. Along with writing, he was also a fantastic orator. Apart from the work, he used to write and give speeches. He educated himself in public libraries in the evenings, finding wider information than at a conventional school.

In Twain`s writing, there was a blend of wonderful talent and geist, which gave him an immense popularity in a short span of time. He became famous for his classic creation `Tom Sawyer` and `Huckleberry Finn`. The author`s reputation makes him rich quickly. Then he started the business in hopes of more profits. But evil fate did not fail to chase him, he repeatedly suffered losses. After bankruptcy in 1890, Twain realized that the business was not a cup of tea for him, instead the writing was his ultimate place. But after his wife`s death, Twain almost gave up writing. In 1906, he wrote his last book `Ivy`s Diary` in the memory of his wife.

By writing a story of a volatile natured boy and a slave, Samuel Langhorne Clemens aka Mark Twain entered the stage of world class litterateur. An impish and daring teen Huckleberry Finn and his companion is a slave named Jim. They go forward for an independent life by crossing over all the thrilling experiences. The dark history of America`s slavery was presented on the book`s page. The book also highlights the story of US poverty. Among the writers of the 19th century, Mark Twain was one among many for his individualism. American famous author William Faulkner said about Twain that he was the first and true American writer and we were all his heirs. Besides writer Ernest Hemingway said about this famous literary that all modern American literature has come from Mark Twain`s popular literary work `Huckleberry Finn.
