Infiltration of Rohingya Militants Suspected

The recent eruption of violence and military crackdown in Rakhine State has caused an influx of more than 400,000 Rohingya refugees into Bangladesh.

The Government of Bangladesh is offering shelter to them on humanitarian grounds. The Government and United Nations have stretched to limit to shelter them in jammed camps.

Amid such crisis, several Intelligence Agencies’ reports are saying that about 5000-7000 terrorists have infiltrated into Bangladesh along with the Rohingya refugees.

The Intelligence Agencies believe that these terrorist groups will threaten the national security of Bangladesh by engaging themselves in terrorist activities, drug smuggling and arms dealing.

According to intelligence sources, in the past, a large number of militants infiltrated into Bangladesh with Rohingyas in different occasions and statistics show that among ten Rohingyas, two of them were involved in terrorist activities.

Their drug and arms smuggling, terrorism and other criminal activities were mostly expanded within the Chittagong area.

The Intelligence Agency suspects, about five to seven thousand Rohingyas will be involved in different criminal activities among the 400,000 Rohingya refugees.

Several local Islamic parties of Bangladesh are demanding that the Government must shelter these Rohingyas. They are even campaigning to succeed in their plan, as they have done before, to recruit Rohingya militants into their parties to carry out various criminal activities.

Therefore, it is suspected that they are following their old method once again to recruit more militants.

The Foreign Ministry has already informed the Prime Minister about the threat on the law & order and security of the country. To thwart such possibility, the intelligence surveillance has been increased around Rohingya camps.
