President Abdul Hamid on Monday reiterated that Bangladeshi peacekeepers would continue their efforts to maintain global peace and stability in the future, UNB reports.
“Bangladeshi peacekeepers are now working in many war-prone areas in many countries to ensure global peace and stability and they will continue their efforts to do so in coming days,” he said.
The President came up with the remark when Force Commander in United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) Major General Jean Paul Deconinck met him at Bangabhaban here in the afternoon.
President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
Noting that Bangladeshi peacekeepers have already set an example in establishing global peace, Hamid said Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support and Training (BIPSOT) is now a centre of excellence to train the peacekeepers of home and abroad.
Welcoming the MINUSMA Force Commander, he said Deconinck’s visit to Bangladesh will encourage Bangladeshi peacekeepers to sincerely perform their duties in UN peacekeeping missions abroad and will play an important role in strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and the UN missions.
During the meeting, Deconinck acknowledged that Bangladeshi peacekeepers are playing an important role in ensuring peace in Mali, hoping that they would perform their duties more effectively in peacekeeping missions in the future.
Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
