PM reads budget, makes fun too

Finance minister Mustafa Kamal could not put forward the budget. He took some time from the speaker while presenting budget due to illness but could not resume the announcement. Later Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina read the budget.

At that time the Prime Minister lightly said, "I accidentally read out the line where I have been thanked. I am reading this on behalf of the finance minister."

The proposed budget for the next fiscal year 2019-20 has been raised in the parliament. The size of the original budget has been estimated to be Tk 5 lac 23 thousand 190 crores. This is 18.1 percent of the GDP.

The maximum allocation with Tk 64,820 crores has been set in the communication and transport sector this time. Payments of internal interests have got the second priority with Tk 57,068 crore. Electricity and energy sector has been allocated with Tk 28,050 crore. The defense sector has got Tk 32,558 crore, health sector Tk 25, 732 crore and allocation for the agriculture sector has been Tk 28, 353 crore.

It is to be noted that the revenue earning target has been estimated at Tk. 377,810 crore. Out of this, the target of 325,600 crore set by the national board of revenue which is 11 percent of the GDP. Revenue income other than NBR has been estimated Tk 14, 500 crore. And revenue income apart from tax income has been estimated Tk 37,710 crores which is 1.3 percent of GDP.
