Finally, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters` Association (BGMEA) building demolition work is starting today (Tuesday). Assuring that Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim says that after the end of long legal dispute, the building is being demolished after not getting any instruction from the High Court to halt the demolition.
According to Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha(RAJUK), government is starting the work after the time given to BGMEA has expired. The demolition will start in the presence of the members of law enforcing agencies including Police, Army, Ansar and RAB
According to RAJUK, the demolition of the entire building will take one day. Before that the building’s utility services such as gas, electricity, water and telephone lines will be disconnected by the service providing entities. Apart from this, office owners may be given short time to remove their goods from the building. Then, the demolition work will start.
