Khaleda Zia weeps for her beloved friend

There are very few people who have seen BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia crying in her long political life. When Khaleda Zia went to see her eldest son Tarique Zia at Bangabandhu Medical College in 2007, she was seen shedding tears. The entire nation witnessed her tears. The second time she cried was in 2010 when she was evicted from her illegally occupied Shaheed Moinul Road residence following a High Court order. The third time she cried was when she heard the death news of her beloved friend Shahnaz Rahmatullah.

Shahnaz Rahmatullah, a notable singer of the country, died on Saturday at 1 am. She was one of the closest friends of Begum Khaleda Zia. BNP`s party anthem "prothom Bangladesh amar sesh Bangladesh" was sang by Shahnaz Rahmatullah. They were close friends in personal life. Shahnaz Rahmatullah used to regularly visit the house of the then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. Her husband was in the army too. So, their friendship grew quickly.

Imprisoned Begum Zia was informed about Shahnaz Rahmatullah`s death last night (Saturday). She burst into tears after hearing this news. According to prison sources, Begum Zia became emotional after reminiscing their memory together. However, she did not apply for a parole to join Shahnaz Rahmatullah`s Namaz-e-Janaza.
