Dissatisfaction in BNP over Fakhrul`s speech
BNP has expressed agitation over the behavior of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Many BNP leaders said that because of the speech of Mirza Fakhrul, the chance of BNP`s expected level playing field in the next parliamentary election is being destroyed.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed his gratitude to the Election Commission (EC) yesterday. On that day, the Election Commission gave the candidacy of 38 BNP candidates back whose nominations were previously canceled. A total of 160 people`s appeals to regain their candidacy were settled on the first day. Among them, 38 candidates from BNP got the nomination. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir thanked the EC in an immediate reaction after the Election Commission returned the candidacy of 38 BNP candidates and hoped that such fair treatment of the Election Commission could return the candidacy of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. However, many leaders of BNP said that when the Election Commission is taking partial action across the country, has not taken any effective action over the arrest and harassment of BNP leaders and activists, and remains silent when the government is continuously violating code and conduct of the election, then such statements of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will make the Election Commission more desperate.
BNP`s top-level leader, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, "I do not know how could Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made this remark." BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also made comment over Mirza Fakhrul`s recent statement. He said, "The Election Commission still cannot prove any neutrality. The Election Commission has corrected the wrongdoing of the returning officers who canceled the nomination of some of the BNP candidates without any valid reason. The Election Commission had no choice but to do it." He thinks that Mirza Fakhrul`s statement will turn the EC more biased.
