Jatiya Oikya Front top leader Dr Kamal Hossain will not participate in the next parliamentary election. Recently, various incidents like tensions against the nomination of Oikya Front, irrational demands of the partners, separate interviews of BNP`s nomination aspirants, and Tarique Zia`s presence in the interview of nomination aspirants have taken place. In view of all these incidents, Dr. Kamal Hossain has decided not to participate.
A few days ago, Dr Kamal was requested by Jatiya Oikya Front to contest from two constituencies of Dhaka, including Dhanmondi seat and he also agreed to the proposal. Even in the last meeting of the coalition, a decision was taken that all of the partners will participate with BNP`s ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol. But in recent times when Dr Kamal`s leadership seems to be in decline and Tarique Zia took the leadership and the partners started making unreasonable demands, Dr Kamal decided to step aside from the election. In this context, the main party of Oikya Front, BNP`s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said over the telephone, "Dr. Kamal does not want to participate." However, another BNP leader said, "These are his (Dr Kamal) words of the huff. He will definitely participate. In the Oikya Front meeting, he will be persuaded to participate in the election."
