Tarique Zia was sentenced to life imprisonment along with 16 other accused in the 21 August Grenade Attack case. The highest penalty for this offense is the death penalty. But Tarique was not rendered death penalty.
Under section 302 of the Penal Code, whoever commits murder shall be punished with death if it is proven without any doubt.
If he is directly or indirectly involved in the murder, he would receive a life sentence to 14-year in prison. So, when Tarique Zia’s involvement with the crime was proved without any doubt, why was he not given the death penalty?, people question.
The families of the victims who died in the attack on August 21, expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict.
State prosecutors said they would appeal to the High Court seeking highest punishment for Tarique.
