Today marks the 14th anniversary of infamous August 21st grenade attacks. On this day of 2004, worst grenade attacks were carried out on the then opposition leader and present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in an anti-terrorism rally organized at the Bangabandhu Avenue. 24 people, including Awami League leader Ivy Rahman, were killed in the attacks.
The nation is remembering the victims of the grenade attack with respect. On the occasion of 21st August, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on Monday.
Meanwhile, after the 14th anniversary of the incident, the proceedings of this case will end in September. There is a possibility of a verdict in October before the schedule of eleventh parliamentary elections is announced. Law Minister Anisul Huq has recently said that the court will finish the hearings in September.
Presently the arguments in favor of the then former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, one of the main suspects in the case, is going on. The dates of the verdicts will be determined once the court hears the testimony of Babar.
Judge Shahed Nuruddin of Dhaka`s Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 will announce the date of the verdict after the final arguments of the state and the defense.
