Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa had always cooperated with Bangabandhu to implement his ideals. My mother was very knowledgeable. Though she did not have the opportunity to study, she had the unparalleled quality and capacity."
The prime minister said this while addressing a function marking the 88th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "My mother never complained about any hardship. We`re strictly instructed not to say that we don`t have something. She never revealed the hardship of the family."
Referring to her greatness, the prime minister said, "She has sold her own jewelry to help the leaders and poor people of the country, saying that the design is outdated, I`ll get new one. She sold the refrigerator saying cold water hurts her throat. But I was the eldest girl of the family, I could understand everything."
Sheikh Hasina said, "My father`s name has been mentioned in the history of the country`s independence but there is no mention of my mother despite she played the main driving force behind my father`s leadership. My mother had a lot of contribution behind my father becoming the Founding Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman."
She said, `Mother knew that Bangladesh would be independent one day. When my father got arrested, we would cry but our mother would not cry. Mother used to say that the seven crore people of this country are with your father, nobody can stop him."
In 1930, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib was born in a respectable Muslim family in Tungipara, Gopalganj. She was martyred on 15th August 1975, when the cruel, barbaric killers massacred Bangabandhu`s family.
