The annual Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) will be relocated to the planned permanent Exhibition Centre in Purbachal by 2019 from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar near the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. The initiative was taken under ‘Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre’ project.
On Tuesday (July 10th), the project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the conference.
State Minister of Finance M.A. Mannan said, ‘Though the project was set till December 2020, China agreed to complete the construction work before 2019.’ He explained, ‘All the infrastructural works will be done in China which later will be installed in Purbachal. Therefore, we’re hopeful that the project will be completed soon.’
MA Manna also said that the prime minister directed to complete the works of Exhibition Center as soon as possible and China also assured that the construction work would be over within 2019.
ECNEC meeting approved six projects including the construction of the Exhibition Center. The state minister said the total estimated expenditure of these projects has been fixed at Tk 2,920 crores.
