Lawmaker Abdur Rahman Bodi, whose name has appeared in intelligence reports of five agencies as yaba godfather, said Awami League must nominate him if it wants to win from the Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency.
Amid controversy over his involvement with yaba trade in Ukhia-Teknaf, the AL lawmaker is confident about getting the nomination from AL for another term.
The ruling party Member of Parliament said nobody but him can help the boat symbol to win in Cox’s Bazar-4.
Despite allegation of being a top patron of yaba traders in the latest report of Department of Narcotics Control, Bodi claims himself to be innocent.
Bodi surprisingly has expressed delight over the controversies of yaba trade as he considers the allegations as means of publicizing his name. Therefore, the more criticism he receives, Bodi claims, he is a crucial pawn for AL to win in Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency.
He says, ‘I exist because of the controversies and allegations. Especially, my dear journalist brothers have kept me popular among people. Lately, my popularity has increased significantly.’
AL Presidium Member Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Muhammad Faruq Khan said, ‘Bodi’s nomination depends on his acceptability in the electoral area and his involvement with the party.’
The government and AL is not denying its discomfort with the controversial lawmaker.
