The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recognized the historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of Bangladesh, as an important documentary heritage.
The speech has been included in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of world’s important documentary heritage, maintained by the UN body.
A Foreign Ministry press release confirmed today that the UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova announced the decision at its Headquarters in Paris on Monday.
"The world will now get to know more about our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and our glorious Liberation War," said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.
The speech of 7th March has inspired millions of Bangladeshis to fight against the oppression of Pakistan in their quest for freedom and emancipation.
This speech till date continues to captivate people and will continue to encourage succeeding generations in Bangladesh and across the globe as well.
